“The conditions of our morality, what fused us together more than those chains, was a socialist vision. We saw the world as a competing set of class interests; we saw the world as a common treasury; we saw that all divisions between man and woman or worker and boss were human made and could thus be human unmade; we saw that due to the thermonuclear threat, we were all common soldiers conscripted and fully uniformed, and thus we had something to say about it; we saw that the guiding principle, “to each according to their need,” was a fully realizable ambition, and that to deny someone such endowment was odious; we saw that indeed so vulgar was the system under which we toiled that we really had no choice but to put our bodies on the line; we saw that war and imperialism and racism were the natural and indisputable corollaries to a capitalist system, and thus if there was any hope whatever to change this repellent system we had better get on with it.”

David Detmer, author of Zinnophobia, Sartre Explained, and Freedom as a Value

"The present political climate makes clear the need for radical change. By creatively reimagining the recent political past, Matthew Sam Prendergasts's novel helps us to envision a better future. It's a clever, funny, and thought- provoking ride. Highly recommended!"

Clint McCown, author of Haints, winner of the Midwest Book Award

"Matthew Sam Prendergast is a surefooted and inventive writer who knows how to tell a good story."
